Rick Griffin Tribute
Tribute to Rick Griffin

2004
To my mind, Rick Griffin was and is one of Americas
most talented modern artists. His influence on the surfing culture of the
sixties can never be underestimated. If you were there you will never forget
"Murphys" surfing. As one of the "Big Five"of the Haight Ashbury underground
art scene, his poster art of that era reflected perfectly the collective
mind set of the youth of the day. His imagery was so far ahead of its time
it is only now that his brilliant imagination can be truly appreciated.
In this tribute i have combined some of my favourite images of his from
that era ,with the central image of him surfing.
I love his art and continue after all these decades
to be inspired by both his God-given talent and his appreciation of the
gift of life.
